What Exactly is Streetwear Or Metropolitan Streetwear?
While browsing the most up-to-date fashion related things online, I always notice people asking for a definition of the term "streetwear.Inch After doing a substantial amount of research on the subject, I could not find a definition that has been to my liking. Since streetwear is a subject getting a lot of media lately, especially in the fashion world, I thought I'd take it after myself to create a well-written definition of the term. Here it is...
Streetwear is a broad classification used to describe clothing which provides an alternative to more mainstream pop-culture brands that may be traditionally found in department stores, malls, and other high-volume retail environments. The streetwear activity was a direct result of the "force feeding" of brand names such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and Difference down the throats of 20-somethings all across the world. Instead of conforming to be able to pop fashion, young entrepreneurs took their own ideas and created custom t-shirts, sweatshirts, and also hats for themselves in addition to their friends. As more and more people grew tired of the same kind of boring look, they will started taking discover of this new style, which seemingly matured from the streets immediately. This new "look" different from region to region, however took inspiration through hip-hop and skateboarding civilizations and fused this with in-your-face graphics along with sharp color schemes more well known as "colorways." As time passes, the quality of streetwear brands increased to the levels we see today... where people are able to camp at retailers overnight and invest hours browsing E-bay expecting that elusive first tee to hit the Internet.
That is it... the definition of streetwear in a single paragraph. I could go into much greater detail, but thought this would give readers a good starting point when performing research on the subject. Streetwear originated from just that, the roadways, and will continue modify as the urban surroundings continues to shift.
